Life in a suitcase
July, 2007
In a split-screen installation we see a woman. In the left screen she appears through a second story window, tossing sheets of paper onto the ground. In the right screen, there is a suitcase. While the woman to the left continues to drop her possessions from the window, the woman to the right sifts through a pile of belongings; clothing, art, a rope, attempting to fit them all into a suitcase. The piece works to untangle the sense of displacement and transience I want to convey in this depiction of the self and the artist as vessels that move through communities and ever-changing notions of reality.
